When is the Best Time to Buy a Shed?

Jon Lantz • April 21, 2026

Storage sheds are valuable additions to New Jersey homeowners’ outdoor living spaces. Many homeowners look to get a shed to store their lawn equipment, outdoor furniture, gardening tools, and more. When looking to buy a new shed, some homeowners may be wondering when the best time to buy one would be. There are both benefits and drawbacks to buying a shed during every season. Below, we’ll go through each season to help you determine the best time to buy a shed for your property.

Spring

Spring is one of the best seasons to build a custom shed, especially if you need it by summer. This is usually the time when New Jersey homeowners are preparing their backyards for summer use, and they may realize they need a shed. There are mild weather conditions, which are ideal for outdoor building, and we’ll have a higher selection of in-stock sheds available. However, since a lot of homeowners have the same idea, this causes demand to be higher, so there could be longer wait times. Overall, we think spring is a practical time to buy a shed. If you want to buy a shed during this time, get in contact with contractors at Jed’s Sheds in late winter to get ahead of the demand.

Summer

Summer is the time when people will realize that they have too much lawn equipment in their garage and need a storage solution to keep themselves organized. This is the peak season for us with the highest demand. There’s warmer, better weather and longer days to build, ideal for quicker installations. If you need a shed quickly, we recommend ordering in late spring, so it can be delivered in the summer. While it is a very favorable time for installation due to the weather, demand will be at its highest, so some homeowners may want to wait until the fall.

Fall

In the fall, New Jersey homeowners need a storage shed to put away their lawn equipment before the winter cold comes in. Fall has good weather for building. It’s not too cold yet, and it’s a drier season, which is more ideal for laying foundations. We’ve found that fall is a quieter time in this industry, as fewer people are generally looking for a shed compared to spring and summer. There will be shorter wait times and more flexibility in scheduling delivery, so you can avoid the spring and summer rush. Buying a shed in the fall sets you up for success in the next year, ensuring your belongings are organized and in good condition for the spring.

Winter

Winter can be a good time to buy a shed, but New Jersey’s harsh winter weather can sometimes halt installation times. If the ground is frozen, we may not be able to complete a foundation and will have to wait until late winter or early spring to finish it. Occasionally, there can be some end-of-season deals during the winter, so sheds could be more affordable. We find that winter is a good time to plan out your shed’s design or pick one of our in-stock sheds. We have a 3D Builder where you can fully design a shed, and if you get your design to us in the winter, we can get it delivered as soon as the weather warms up to prepare you for spring.

Choosing the Best Time to Build

Determining the right time to build your shed depends on your needs. Consider your budget, design, features you want, when you need it by, etc., to help you choose the best time to build. In our experience, spring and fall are the best times to buy a shed. If you need a shed for the spring growing season, buy in late February or March. If you need a shed for winter storage, buy in the fall.
