Adding windows to your shed design adds natural light to the space, helping you save on energy costs. Natural light reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day, but we recommend using a lamp or overhead light at night. We have Dormer Sheds that have transom glass, or add windows to your entry doors for more light. Windows will also improve ventilation in the shed by providing more air circulation when open. If you want to add more visual appeal, add window boxes to your shed.
What Features Should Your Shed Have?
When designing a custom shed with Jed’s Sheds, you’ll have to decide what features are required to make it fit your needs. We have a lot of options for your shed, including exterior and interior ones. Depending on your needs, carefully choose features that will make the shed more organized and efficient to use. Here are some common features your shed should have.
Exterior Features
Exterior shed features ensure the structural integrity of the shed and ensure it is protected from mold and mildew buildup.
Strong Foundation
A strong foundation is vital for the structural integrity of your shed. You need a stable base for the structure, like concrete, gravel, or stone pavers. The foundation helps drain water away from the shed to prevent rotting and structural damage. For better drainage, we find it best to add gutters and downspouts to your design. We offer site preparation services to ensure you have a strong, level foundation for your new shed. We recommend using a gravel stone pad for your foundation. Inspect the shed regularly to ensure the foundation is still in good condition.
Windows
Strong Doors
At Jed’s Sheds, we offer both single and double doors for our sheds. We recommend opting for a double door for easy access for larger equipment. No matter which one you choose, make sure your shed doors are always locked when not in use, so your valuable items are safe from theft. Our doors have strong hinges to make it harder for thieves to break in, but we recommend adding a padlock or smart lock if you need extra protection.
Ventilation
Ventilation is vital for a shed to ensure proper airflow. Humidity can damage your items, so you need to make sure there is proper air circulation in the shed so your items don't mold or rust. Our team can add gable and ridge vents to your shed for air circulation. This will prevent mold and mildew growth inside the shed and will ensure you don’t overheat while working in New Jersey summers. To properly maintain the temperature inside the shed, pair ventilation with good insulation.
Interior Features
Interior shed features help with organizing your belongings inside the shed to maximize your floor space.
Workbenches
Workbenches provide a dedicated workspace for you to work on your passion projects. They are especially beneficial if you want to use your shed as a workshop. You can organize all your tools and materials for your projects here, as the workbench can also act as an extra storage shelf. Whether it be for gardening, DIY projects, or repairs, a workbench helps foster creativity while you’re working.
Loft
Pegboard
Pegboards are a good way to maximize the use of your vertical space. They’re good for organizing tools, hoses, cords, and other frequently-used items. A pegboard uses small holes and hooks (or pegs) to organize your tools. You can easily rearrange them when needed according to your specific needs. You’ll be able to ensure your items are easily accessible for use when needed. We recommend putting a pegboard above a workbench to have all the tools you need at eye level.
