Workbenches and pegboards are perfect for outdoor storage or a workshop space. We can install a workbench to give you ample space to work on gardening or a DIY project. Pegboards are great for organizing smaller and handheld tools. They keep your items nice and organized at arm’s reach while working, and they have a customizable layout that can easily be rearranged. We find it best to have the workbench and the pegboard installed above it to make working more efficient.
Our Guide to Styling Your Shed's Interior
Designing a shed can be a tedious process. Once you have the exterior figured out and it looks great with your existing New Jersey home, now’s the time to determine how you want the interior to look. Deciding how you want to style your shed’s interior starts with deciding the shed’s purpose, then figuring out all the features you’ll need for it to function to your needs. There are organizational features and practical features you can add to the shed depending on its use. Here is everything you need to know about styling your shed’s interior.
Determine the Shed’s Purpose
The purpose of your shed will determine what is needed in the interior and will guide your choices on features. Will the shed be a workshop? An office? A home gym? Whatever you decide the shed will be used for, it will let you know what’s necessary to have in your functional space. Consider the items you’ll need to have in the shed as well, like outdoor equipment, power tools, gym equipment, or office furniture and supplies. Once you figure out the purpose, you can choose a shed style from Jed’s Sheds that meets your needs, then style the interior to function best for you.
Add Walls and Floors
Once the purpose is determined, you may need to add walls and floors to the shed for more durability. If the shed will be used for storage, the floor is durable enough to hold your outdoor equipment. Our sheds come with plywood flooring, but if you’re not using the shed for storage, we recommend installing another flooring material. If you’re using the shed for a workshop, office, gym, etc., then finishing up the walls and floor will make the space more comfortable. You can line the walls with drywall, providing a clean look that is easy to paint or add wallpaper. Flooring materials like vinyl, wood, rubber mats, or laminate will make the structure more durable for any heavy equipment placed inside.
Organizational Features
There are multiple features you can add to the shed that will make it better organized. These are especially necessary if you’re using the shed for a workshop or just simple storage.

Shelves
Adding shelving will make use of your vertical space and leave room on the floor for heavier equipment and furniture. These are beneficial if you’re using the shed for storage or for an office or workshop. Metal shelves are the most durable against pests and moisture, and open shelving makes the space look bigger while preventing moisture buildup from New Jersey weather. Adjustable shelves are great if you need flexible organization, as you can store different-sized items. Shelving makes organization in your shed easier, giving a designated place for all your items.
Lofts
Lofts offer overhead storage so you can free up floor and wall space. They are great if you need to store things you don’t need often or just need seasonally. All of our sheds can be upgraded to have a loft. Our Dutch Barns and Classic Garden Cottages have higher roof pitches that are designed for overhead storage.
Practical Features:
If using the shed as a functional space, there are some practical features you should consider installing:
Insulation
If you plan on using the shed year-round, we recommend installing insulation in the structure’s walls, floor, and ceiling. It will improve energy efficiency and regulate the temperature inside the shed, especially during New Jersey’s hot summers and cold winters. It will also provide a little bit of soundproofing, so you don’t disturb your neighbors while working. You can use foam board, fiberglass, or spray foam insulation for a shed. We also recommend having an insulated door if you plan to use the shed as an office space or home gym.
Electricity
Ventilation
Ventilation is vital to ensure the structure itself and your belongings inside are not damaged by New Jersey’s temperature changes or moisture buildup. It will maintain air circulation and reduce humidity inside the shed, making it a more comfortable environment. Moisture buildup will lead to mold and mildew growth, and ventilation is key to ensuring proper airflow throughout the shed to keep it dry.
Our team can install gable or ridge vents in the shed to let hot, humid air escape. Windows also offer ventilation when left open. If you require more ventilation, especially if using the space as a
gym or art studio, you can install an HVAC system if you’re also running electricity to the shed.
Lighting
Add lighting fixtures to the shed so you can illuminate the space while working, especially at night. Use overhead lights to generally light up the space. A workspace must be well-lit, though, so we recommend using task lighting like a table lamp for your work area. If you want a statement piece, add a chandelier. Windows will provide natural light and will make the space feel more finished while letting you save money on electricity.
